The New York Jets: in the late 1960’s, they were the team to beat. They had Joe Namath, hall of fame quarterback at the helm of the team. He was a celebrity, and he was a friend to all. Flash-forward to August 2015. In recent years, the New York Jets have been the laughingstock of not only the AFC east, but can be considered the laughingstock of the NFL. Their starting quarterback, Geno Smith, is one of the many rushing quarterbacks of the NFL, and has been cursed as starter of the team. This could’ve been their year, as they are trying to come back from a 4-12 record, and the hiring of new coach Todd Bowles is an improvement from their defensive-minded coach from 2014, Rex Ryan. Well, this could’ve been their year. But, today, Geno Smith was sucker punched by IK Enemkpali. Enemkpali broke his jaw on the spot. IK was also cut afterwards. Which really sucks, because Smith thought he was hot s**t coming into the next season. Look, Geno, if you’re being booed by loyal fans in a scrimmage, you’re doing something wrong. Well, not really. Jets fans are the worst. There’s no getting around that. But if you have bad people booing you? You’re probably not the best person in the world. Nor are you the best at what you do.
What’s even better is that he’s out 6-10 weeks. It’s so beautiful. As “rivals” (I wouldn’t call the Patriots beating the Jets 20 out of the last 26 times a “rivalry”), the Jets of course mocked Patriots fans with the “Deflategate” nonsense. But, I’d call this worse. The worse thing to happen to Tom Brady and a teammate was probably the teammate turning down a brunch reservation. But Geno Smith, getting punched by a teammate? That’s ridiculous. If a teammate were to punch Tom Brady, I feel like Tom Brady would be the one apologizing to the teammate. He’s such a nice guy.
P.S- I really hope the Patriots sign IK Enemkpali. I don’t care if they only sign him for Week 16 versus the Jets. I would want them to sign him for Week 7 against them, but Geno Smith still might be out. But TB12 will be back.
